Cosmology is a series of five interlinked pieces for solo violoncello and electronic media, composed and performed by Nicholas Denton Protsack. The EP is meant to structurally mimic the chronology of the universe, from its origin to its possible end. Each piece represents a different stage of cosmic evolution, drawing upon rich harmonies, extended techniques, and intricate electronic soundscapes to convey vast cosmic events that slowly unfold and evolve over time.
The EP also draws inspiration from field recordings made by the Voyager I Spacecraft, which were translated into sound by NASA and used to create the album series "Symphonies of the Planets" in the 1990's. Cosmology is a sonic journey that explores the beauty and mystery of the universe through the expressive voice of the cello and the immersive soundscape of electronic media.
